The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that an orthodontist screen all children for orthodontic problems by the age of 7 years old.
Orthodontic treatment may not be necessary at this early age, but early evaluation can give us a baseline for growth, missing teeth, and tooth eruption.
Timely screening increases the chances for a great smile. Prudent intervention guides growth and development, preventing serious problems later.
After diagnosis, any of the following treatment courses could be:Recall to monitor growth
Phase I Treatment to address immediate concerns
Full treatment with orthodontic appliances.

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. The practice of orthodontics requires professional skill in the design, application and control of corrective appliances to bring teeth, lips and jaws into proper alignment and achieve facial balance.
We like to suggest your child be seen no later than the age of seven, but it is never too late to have orthodontic treatment. Our patients range from ages 3 to 80. The treatment time varies on each patient depending on their needs. Some patients benefit from Early Treatment or Phase I to address urgent issues. This may decrease the treatment time for Phase II or avoid more serious problems, sometimes requiring jaw surgery.
It is important to remember that successful orthodontic treatment is a team effort between the orthodontist and the patient.
Everyone wants a beautiful smile, but more importantly, everyone should have a healthy one. The orthodontist’s goal is to achieve both for the patient.
BRACES
Currently, the most popular types of braces used include:
Metal Braces
These traditional braces are most often seen on children and teenagers. Metal braces are the most affordable, come in different colors, and use a system of brackets and wires to move the teeth over time.
Ceramic Braces
These braces work like traditional metal braces, except that the brackets bonded to the teeth are made of ceramic. They are the same shape as metal braces but are clear or tooth colored.Retainers
Once your braces are removed, a retainer is utilized to hold your teeth in their new positions until your bone, gums, and muscles adapt to the new teeth positions. You must wear your retainer as instructed, as otherwise your teeth may move toward their original positions and the benefit of wearing your braces will be lost.Your orthodontic retainers should be worn at all times for the first several months with the exception of brushing your teeth and eating.
CLEAR ALIGNERS
This modern orthodontic treatment is highly popular among those who wish to straighten their smiles discreetly.
Clear Aligner orthodontics is a system of customized plastic trays that are worn day and night, with the exception of when you are eating, brushing and flossing.
The invisible trays are switched out every couple of weeks until a desirable result is achieved.
